Future-proof technology for dynamic markets

We assist you with hydrogen generation and use by supplying customized valves, integrated system modules and digital automation technology, tailored to your specific requirements and scalable in any project phase. Our personalized advice, technical configuration and an extensive product range from a single source give you orientation and certainty. Even in a market that is developing at a rapid pace.
The production of green hydrogen starts with water treatment, which is crucial for the efficiency and service life of your electrolytic cells. The requirements differ depending on the procedure – alkaline electrolysis (AEL) or PEM electrolysis: For PEM electrolyzers, you need ultra-pure water of the highest possible quality, while in AEL plants the water is treated for the alkaline circuit.
Our portfolio includes a wide range of valves and measuring equipment for water treatment. We offer decades of experience with ultra-pure water and protect your systems against contamination, for example using plastic valves or coated metal bodies.

A reliably sealed valve is essential for handling the medium of hydrogen. Globe valves, ball valves and butterfly valves which are permanently sealed and tested according to TA Luft (German Clean Air Act) can be used to maintain a consistent pressure and ensure reliable, fault-free operation of your electrolysis plant.
We also test our own valves for tightness – under realistic conditions with hydrogen and helium – which enables us to detect even the smallest of leakages at an early stage, document them and rectify them in a traceable manner.

Many electrolysis systems are installed locally and often don’t have a central compressed air supply. Motorized valve actuators make it possible for you to flexibly control the valves and are easy to integrate into your control and monitoring systems. This gives you full control, even with complex plant layouts, and means you can easily monitor processes remotely.

Hydrogen is already being used in large quantities for industrial purposes today – for example in the production of ammonia as the basis for fertilizer or in refineries. It is likely that the fields of application will change in future: Hydrogen is increasingly being used as an energy source in fuel cells, as raw material for the production of e-fuels or for CO₂-free steel production. It can also be fed into existing gas networks.

The production of e-fuels requires the gas flows to be precisely controlled in order to ensure efficiency and safety. GEMÜ offers electrical globe valves which deliver ultimate control accuracy. They can also be operated in local plants without compressed air, which offers greater flexibility when constructing modern Power-to-X plants.

Fuel cells on ships, on trains or in stationary plants call for space-saving, multi-functional valve solutions – often with specific approvals. GEMÜ block valve solutions require less space and combine multiple functions in one component. We can provide certifications and specific approvals for particular applications if requested.

An essential prerequisite for digitalization is the reliable integration of sensors, actuators and valves into plant control systems. Only when data is recorded and transmitted directly at field level can processes be monitored and controlled in real time.
This is why our valves offer open interfaces such as IO-Link or AS-Interface, which enables them to be integrated into all common process networks irrespective of the manufacturer. They are also flexible when it comes to signal transmission: Alongside traditional analogue 4–20 mA technology, they support many digital protocols so that existing and new plants can be designed to be future-proof for a long time to come.

As modern, highly efficient plants become increasingly complex, there is growing demand for intelligent organization of operation and maintenance. There is often no reliable overview of the components used, in particular after long operating periods or numerous modifications.
Our CONEXO asset lifecycle management platform makes it possible to log all valves digitally, clearly identify them and trace their current status at any time.

Added certainty for you
With our in-house test rig, we set new standards in the leak-tightness testing of valves for hydrogen applications. Under realistic conditions, we test our products with hydrogen and helium, use highly sensitive measurement systems and document all results automatically. This is how we detect even the smallest of leakages reliably and quantitatively – in a manner that can be reproduced and traced at any time.
For operators and plant designers, this means greater transparency, quicker approvals and safer investments. At the same time, we combine our internal tests with recognized external certifications. By doing so, we deliberately go beyond existing standards and deliver measurable quality for the hydrogen economy – now and in the future.
