New Machinery Regulation: GEMÜ supports customers during the transition

The new Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 will enter into force on 20th January 2027 and replace the current Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. For machinery manufacturers, this gives rise to new requirements for the conformity assessment and technical documentation. Below we’ll explain what consequences this change will have for the components our customers are already using:

For GEMÜ’s customers, this means: Products which are classified as partly completed machinery and were put into circulation before 20th January 2027 in accordance with the existing Machinery Directive can continue to be integrated into complete machinery as intended even after the new Machinery Regulation comes into force. There is no need to reassess these products or obtain a new declaration for them.

In the future, manufacturers of complete machinery will carry out their conformity assessment on the basis of the Machinery Regulation and, as part of their risk assessment, will ensure that the fundamental health and safety requirements defined in this regulation are met. When doing so, existing Declarations of Incorporation and operating and assembly instructions for GEMÜ products that were put into circulation in accordance with the Machinery Directive before the Machinery Regulation came into force can continue to be used as the basis for the integration of the products.

For the most part, the new Machinery Regulation will not lead to any technical alterations for the GEMÜ products affected. The modifications relate mostly to the associated documentation. GEMÜ will gradually adapt the EU Declarations of Incorporation and other technical documentation to bring them in line with the requirements of the Machinery Regulation and will make them available by early 2027.
