Valve specialist GEMÜ is a new member of the German Central Association for Surface Technology (Zentralverband Oberflächentechnik). By joining the Association, the technology company is strengthening the professional exchange of ideas with regard to modern surface processing methods, whilst also contributing to the network its own expertise in demanding industrial applications.
The quality of surfaces plays a particularly important role for GEMÜ, especially with regard to media wetted components. At its own Surface Technology Centre, the specialist in valves, measurement and control systems processes exclusively stainless steel components and brings together various mechanical and electrochemical surface processing methods. Depending on the requirements, the components are, among other things, polished, pickled or electropolished. Surface quality is of particular importance in applications with high hygiene requirements. The objective of the machining process is to achieve a media wetted surface that is as even as possible, in order to minimize adhesion and deposits. This is of particularly high relevance for applications in the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries.
Electropolishing is a core technology at the Surface Technology Centre. This means that GEMÜ has in-house expertise in an area that shares numerous professional points of contact with the technologies and companies represented within the Central Association for Surface Technology. “The quality of media wetted surfaces is crucial for safe and reliable process control, particularly in hygienically demanding applications. Through our membership of the Central Association for Surface Technology, we aim to further intensify professional dialogue, gain new insights and, at the same time, contribute to the network our own experience in the machining of high-quality stainless steel surfaces,” explains Michael Pisch, Senior Head of Department at GEMÜ’s Surface Technology Centre.
Founded in 2000, the Central Association for Surface Technology represents the interests of the German electroplating and surface finishing industry and brings together companies across the entire value chain – from coaters and electroplating companies to plant and component manufacturers, right through to raw material suppliers and service providers.
