PUPSIT refers to the integrity test of a sterilized filter after sterilization, installation and handling, but before first product contact, to ensure its function and sterile barrier effect. Since the revision of EU GMP Annex 1, PUPSIT has been a concrete technical requirement for existing and new pharmaceutical plants.
In stainless steel plants in particular, installation space, additional connections, welding work, dead space and qualification effort are key challenges.
